Behaviour Support Plan
- A behaviour support plan is written by a behaviour support practitioner. The plan should look at ways to meet the person's needs and respect their dignity. The goal is to improve the quality of life for the participant. There are two types of plans; an interim behaviour support plan and a comprehensive plan.
Functional Behaviour Assessment
A behaviour support practitioner writes a functional behaviour assessment. It focuses on the person considering their situation, culture and beliefs. The assessment reviews why behaviours happen and examines restrictive practices and unmet needs. The practitioner works with the person’s support network to understand when, where and how the behaviours occur and how they affect daily life.
Behaviour Training & Review
The practitioner will train support workers, carers and family members to implement the behaviour support plan. This training helps everyone build their skills in using behavioural strategies safely, including any prescribed restrictive practices. It also provides an opportunity to review progress, discuss what’s working, and look for ways to reduce or remove restrictive practices.
